Based locally in Canton, MI, we’re a husband & wife team who travel across the entire mitten state to photograph weddings. I LOVE getting to know all of my clients personally – how did you meet, what does your perfect date night look like, what types of photos do you take when not in front of a photographer? Photos are the best way to chronicle the incredible story of your wedding, and we’re here to help you tell your own story for generations to come. Without a doubt, we love what we do!
As a husband and a father, I look at life as an adventure. When not behind a viewfinder or teaching photography classes, I love to just live life with my beautiful wife Marianne and our son Matthew. Married in 2011, best friends since 2009. Marianne and I met playing racquetball at Michigan State (a very studious class!). Whether we’re hanging out in our home in Canton, going scuba diving in Ohio, or going to our favorite restaurants and hang out spots (Five Guys & Dave and Buster’s!), we love to enjoy life and have fun. I honestly can’t wait for the day our son is old enough to run around so I can play laser tag with him!
A lot of personal experiences have helped shape what Phil Black Photography is today. From ages 14 – 21, I ran my own online retail company selling gag gifts and retail novelties. I then started a custom art and design company, which has since evolved into what I do now. Initially photographing portraits, landscapes and astrophotography, Phil Black Photography has grown quicker than I could have imagined and has been shaped by focusing on our clients. So many of our couples had shared common needs – finding a photographer who consistently delivered quality images with custom-tailored packages without nickel and diming. So I’ve set out to change the wedding photography industry. I’ve worked with couples who’ve eloped, and with couples with over 300 guests at their weddings, simple and modern weddings to outdoor, elaborate barn weddings, and everything in-between. I absolutely love knowing that what I do makes a difference in other people’s lives, and helps them cherish one of the most memorable days of their lives.
